5. Modifiers: pg. 257

 

A modifier is a word, phrase, or clause that describes, limits or qualifies another word or word group in a sentence. A modifier should be placed close to the word it modifies.

 

 

Identify Modifiers:

  • The bridge across the river swayed in the wind.

  • Walking along the shore, Mary watched the boats.

 

 

Examples of Misplaced Modifiers:

 

  • Venus de Milo is a statue created by a famous artist with no arms.

  • He approached the lion with fear in his heart.

Dangling Modifier: a word or phrase that cannot logically modify any word in the sentence (page 262)

 

Example:

Using this drug, many undesirable side effects are experienced.

 

Fix this problem by adding a subject to the sentence.

Let me explain, that's my biggest problem with reading.

 

While my weaknesses are my inability to read quickly and my short tolerance toward certain writers topics.

 

Become more intelegant and gave to him self ability to escape.

 

Following steps like finding the ideas that have huge meanings when I write my paragraph.

 

In conclusion to that, some graduates are lacking in certain areas, she feels that there are 5 certain things that graduates need in order to be able to land and keep a job.

 

According to the text it should be easy for the grads to get a job, but they also expect a higher pay.

 

In this series, kids are thrown into this maze and they have no recollection of memory, no known way to escape.

 

I do enjoy reading, when I was younger I enjoyed reading and getting read to.

 

Whether I'm deciding what to wear for the day or which classes I should be taking in school to help me reach my end goal.

 

 

 

Semi-Colons

 

Although my curiosity for reading started for me as a child, I am still an avid reader till this day; intrigued mostly by informative writings.

 

I have a hard time concentrating on what I read, therefore, I often have to re-read material several times.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Modifiers

 

Up until I got a job, you'd only ever catch me in my room, wrapped in a blanket squinting at the pages of a book I've been reading for 8 hours straight.

 

My primary strength of reading is that I can retain information well, but my biggest weakness is that I do skim material when I am reading on occasion.

 

With those 5 skills in hand, it would be easy for employees to communicate and interact with clients, be able to solve problems in a efficient and beneficial way, know how to orally communicate appropriately depending on the situation at hand, be bale to take the reign and lead a team when they are needed to, and be able to compose a well written resume or report.

 

I know I will have to write out plans and charts for my clients daily.

 

I'd much rather think about ideas or write them down on a piece of paper then have to figure out what someone is trying to tell me by looking at specific details within a story or book.

 

Miscellaneous issues with clarity, wordiness, formal writing, and awkward sentence structure

 

When applying for jobs one needs to not only have a degree but also be able to hold conversations, use complete sentences, make eye contact, listen and use recognition.

 

When this happens, there is so much that I want to write about and that is what leads m to write so much about whatever I write about.

 

To be a successful student, I have to push myself and pray to my God every night if I want to thrive and if I have the faith and believe I will, I will.

 

Douglass statement reminds me so much of the world of politics.

 

Some parts of the world don't have access or are restricted from learning to read and write.

 

Every time I read now I read out of curiosity.

 

This article was very informative and a great read before applying for a job after college because it helped the reader understand skills needed to get a job out of college.
